The Last Airbender, rated 07% on rotten tomatoes.

RT consensus: "Despite flashy special effects, The Last Airbender squanders the potential of its popular source material on an incomprehensible plot, laughable dialogue, and a joyless sense of detachment."

It's a tragedy that the live action film doesn't seem to have lived up to the cartoon. In fact, I hope this movie doesn't destroy any young actor/actress' careers. But I can't say I'm not happy. In fact, I'm almost deliriously happy.

Here's to hoping that the ratings remain steady and the box office doesn't pull off any miracles.

knight and day was only summer fun.
bronze star (aka DVD fun)

After a folk song singing, hand clapping bratwurst dinner and a little too much beer at the smoky Hofbrauhaus in Kentucky, i watched knight and day on its opening night this week. while the movie only garnered 52% on rotten tomatoes (aka splat tomato), the trailers caught my attention.

first, there was the beautiful people. tom cruise + cameron diaz in light hearted espionage summer flick? - candy to the eyes. then, there was the strangely charismatic tom cruise character that seemed too intriguing to miss. topped with the effervescent cameron diaz in a possible save the world (or at least an innocent kid) bid, i was reeled in.

and basically, the movie played out pretty much as the trailers did. no thinking was necessary for this film. In fact, I would strongly encourage against thinking - if you tried to work out some of the plot holes, the movie would end up woefully falling apart. also, i did get put off by Cameron Diaz's character for a bit, as she seemed to "not cope well" and "not think well" a little too many times. although, i admit, the last method to help her cope was humorous.

in any case, the movie definitely deserves a star, albeit a bronze one. at $6 a ticket, it was well worth the view.

i am an avid reader.

i wish i could say i was a reader of the classics, that i enjoyed pursuing literature of intellectual repute, but obviously, i am neither.

as many of my closest friends already know, i crave my HEA's (happily ever after's to the uninitiated). i scorn the movies that force me to think. i run from media that push my boundaries because frankly, being a minority and soon to be medical professional, i see some crappy shit in real life. (although, let's be honest, other people deal with infinitely more crappier shit.) plus i love me some vampires.

anyway, the following is a list of my favorite 4+ book series of the paranormal romance/urban fantasy inclination. and if you happened to click on the links and didn't avert your eyes on time, please, don't judge the books by their scantily clad covers:

Fever series - by Karen Marie Moning
- Great character development over the series, epic save the world post apocalypse style.

Kate Daniels series - by Ilona Andrews
- Awesome magic+tech alternative universe world building with a believable alpha+alpha romance.

Guardian series - by Meljean Brook
- Action packed series loosely based on Christian theology with huge artistic license. my favorite vampire romance (Demon Moon) is also included in the series ;)

Psy/Changeling series - by Nalini Singh
- My first introduction to PNR. Great romances with a multiethnic cast. H/H (heroine/hero) diversity always deserves a gold star.

Immortals after Dark series - by Kresley Cole
- Incredibly layered storylines that weave together seamlessly book after book.

i think i really failed that OSCE. like, seriously failed.

maybe it was the last minute studying, the lack of sleep, the general "this is my last 3rd year clerkship ever (hopefully)" mentality. but for whatever reason, i really sucked at the OSCE.

i do not want to repeat Ob-Gyn.

I can't even enjoy The Simpsons anymore.

Fox is playing The Last Airbender previews after Simpsons, TMZ, Simpsons and The Office. I get so angry when I see those damn previews. Weird thing is, the narrator has some funky accent, like almost East Asian, but not quite. Could it be they're yellow-facing the voice overs too?? bah.
